Sandra K. Miller, age 85, of Colon, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
Sandra was born on September 23, 1939 in Decatur, Indiana; a daughter to the late Jesse and Lucille (McKean) Burke. Sandra graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1957. She then received her cosmetology certification from Tracy’s Beauty School in Kalamazoo. She worked as a hairdresser for 33 years, eventually having her own shop: Sandy’s Cut and Curl. Later, she worked at Colon Village Floral/Posy as a floral designer and sold her artwork at local craft shows.
On November 20, 1960, Sandra married her husband of 55 years, Verlan G. Miller. Verlan preceded Sandra in death on Monday, August 15, 2016.
Sandra enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, tole painting, floral design, collecting Department 56 Villages, and spending time with her beloved Shih Tzu, Muffin. She was also known as the biggest Elvis fan ever and enjoyed spending time with family up north and on the lake. Sandra was a member of the Colon Garden Club, the Red Hatters, and Bridge Club.
Sandra is survived by her children: Mitchell Miller of Colon and Colleen (Michael) Saxman of Colon; grandchildren Rachel (Joshua Cole) Miller of Las Vegas, Andrew Miller of Ft. Wayne, Anthony (Ashlynn Lambright) Saxman of Colon, and Abby Saxman of Colon; great granddaughters Riley and Remi Cole of Las Vegas, NV; her sister: Renee (Todd) Brown of Sturgis; and one niece: Bethany (Quinton) Slovacek.
Besides her parents Jesse and Lucille Burke, Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Verlan G. Miller.
The Miller family will receive friends and relatives from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD in Colon. A funeral service celebrating the life of Sandra will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 11:00 at the Colon United Methodist Church with pastor David Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Colon United Methodist Church or the Colon Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
