Constantine Village Council members agreed last week to pursue a state grant through the state’s “MI Neighborhood” program.
During their Feb. 3 council meeting, municipal officials decided to pursue what could amount to up to $400,000. Clayton Lyczynski, St. Joseph County Human Resources Commission housing coordinator, said the Michigan State Housing Development Authority still has $11 million of a $30 million pot available to administer.
They are distributed in the form of Community Development Block Program funds.
Lyczynski said should Constantine secure a grant, the village would then be in position to assist residents in need of home-related repairs such as roofs, furnaces, and energy-efficiency improvements, for example.
Lyczynski said he is aware Sturgis, Three Rivers, and Mendon are also considering applying for the state-issued grant money.
A second round of funding will be released in October.
MI Neighbor programs are for Governmental units and their sub-entities like DDAs, etc., For-profit developers like millionaire Jamie Clark, and Non-profits. Millions of taxpayer money, federal and state, funneled to everyone except individual homeowners in need of repairs. What the heck, poor people’s lack of money prove their unworthiness in getting taxpayer money for home repairs. Millionaires, businesses, and developers are more deserving.
I thought JC must be full of hooey so my son found the state website for me. The application page says just what he said.
Is there some way we can know who writes the news for WLKM? I assume most are press releases?
