County unemployment increased

December’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County increased by more than half a percentage point from November.

Figures from the monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget show St. Joseph County’s unemployment rate rose from 4.6 percent in November to 5 percent in December.

In addition, Cass County also experienced growth in its unemployment figures from November to December. Its November rate was 5 percent and increased to 5.5 percent a month later.

Meanwhile, Branch County’s one-month unemployment rate rose in December from the previous month. It was 4.8 percent in November and 5 percent in December.

Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December was 5 percent, up from 4.8 percent in November.
