State commission denies petition to annex property

A state commission decided last week against a petition sought by Three Rivers Mayor Tom Lowry to annex property from Lockport Township into the city.

According to the Three Rivers Commercial-News, the State Boundary Commission denied Lowry’s request, which centered on a 38-acre parcel he owns off of Buckhorn Road.

Lowry was interested in developing houses on the property had it been within the city’s boundaries. Instead, the land will remain in unincorporated Lockport Township, which is not serviced by municipal sewer services.

The issue had been brewing for more than two years.

Lowry did not indicate if he plans to appeal the decision, which would involve a process in the county’s court system.

  1. If he is building houses to help people find adequate and affordable housing, then he should just do it. The houses do not have to be annexed to the City of Three Rivers. There’s plenty of people looking for almost country homes. He would profit. So what’s his hangup? Or should I say motivation?
