New grant will help with TRAM transportation

Three Rivers Area Mentoring plans to start a new service thanks to a grant from Three Rivers Area Community Foundation.

TRAM officials said a new transportation program features a free ride home.

A $2,500 grant will allow the agency to fund the transportation initiative.

TRAM provides after-school services and activities for students in second through eighth grades. Program dismissal falls between 5:30 and 6 p.m., posing a challenge to some families not always able to pick up their child within the 30-minute window.

In some cases, the lack of reliable transportation keeps some families from letting their children participate in TRAM altogether.

TRAM officials said St. Joseph County Transportation Authority will likely be at least one option for the ride-home service.
