Three Rivers Health employee receives heroism award

A Three Rivers Health employee was recently recognized for heroic actions demonstrated during the March 6 tornado.

According to WWMT, Abigail Hostetler last week received the George A. Cooper Award during a ceremony hosted by the Camp Eberhart Alumni Association, an organization that recognizes heroism, service and lifesaving actions throughout the Michiana area.

Hostetler became widely recognized in March after surveillance video from Three Rivers Health captured her jumping on top of a patient, Del Eastes, as tornado sirens sounded and severe weather moved through the area.

At Friday’s ceremony, Hostetler called the recognition an amazing opportunity.

The George A. Cooper Foundation was founded in 1921 to memorialize an act of heroism by George A. Cooper, who helped save several men during a rescue effort on Indian Lake in Cass County, according to information provided by the Camp Eberhart Alumni Association.

The award now honors people who exemplify courage, service and helping others through heroic acts.
