Jaime Rodriguez, Sr., 81

Jaime Rodriguez passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the age of 81.  He was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, on March 26, 1944, to Estevan and Esperanza Villanueva Rodriguez.

He grew up in La Isla del Encanto where he developed a strong work ethic and deep love for his family, and an unshakeable pride in his Puerto Rican roots. As a young teenager, he left Puerto Rico for New York, where he lived for a short while before returning to Puerto Rico to get his brother, and then they transitioned to live and work in Michigan. Together, they settled in Michigan, where Jaime built a meaningful life and became known as the patriarchal figure to many Puerto Rican families new to the Michiana area. Jaime made Three Rivers his home for over 60 years, where he dedicated 40 years of service to International Paper (Weyerhaeuser). He was admired for his hard work and good humor. Even after retiring, Jaime often stopped by to visit his friends and former coworkers, joking about his newfound freedom from “punching the clock!

A devoted husband, Jaime cherished his beloved wife, Balvina (Postosme) Rodriguez, whom he affectionately referred to as his chef, barber, support, love, and “his amor.” He frequently expressed his gratitude, saying, “My wife has a heart of gold. She takes good care of me.” Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Jaime took great pride in his children, always offering them guidance, love, and support. While his methods may have differed, the values he instilled—character, pride, dedication, resilience, and humor—remain deeply rooted in the family. Jaime enjoyed spending time with family and friends, valuing the bonds he shared with his brothers and coworkers. As his family matured and relocated, the friendships he developed with his peers became even more significant, resulting in many meaningful memories filled with warmth, laughter, and shared stories.

Jaime’s life was rich with passions and hobbies throughout his life. He loved music, watching boxing matches, and auto racing. He also enjoyed golfing, tending his garden, fixing cars, fishing, exploring new places, and especially taking chances at casinos, which was by far his favorite way to unwind. His energy at cookouts was infectious, and his stories brightened every gathering. Jaime was enthusiastic about everything he did and took pride in his many hobbies and interests.

Those left to mourn him are his loving wife, Balvina, his children, Steven, Jaime Jr. (Tiffany) Rodriguez, and his daughter, stepchildren, Oscar (Alyssa) Schultz, Javier, and Adilia Sequeira. His sister Norma (Frank) Ramos and his sister in law, Carmen Rodriguez. Six grandchildren, Steven Jr., Amanda, Jaden, Jax, Blaze Rodriguez, and Sofia Sequeira, and his beloved great-granddaughter, Kya Navae, whose birth brought him immense joy and pride. Jaime also leaves behind two nephews and five nieces, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of friends who were more like family than buddies. These men were the best of friends, proving that you don’t have to share blood to be brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, his brothers, Jose and Carlos Rodriguez.

Although Jaime’s passing was a sudden shock, his life was full and deeply meaningful. He shared laughter, stories, and adventures with everyone fortunate enough to know him. As we honor his memory, we will remember his examples – to work hard, love deeply, and live fully. Jaime would want us all to embrace life as he did, with gratitude, joy, and purpose.

Per Jaime’s wishes, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be given to his wife, Balvina, to keep with her when she goes fishing. His remaining ashes will be gifted to his sons and nieces, Estephani and Sonia, to take them back home to Puerto Rico to place them at his family’s gravesite in Aguadilla.

Jaime Rodríguez, de 81 años, falleció en paz el 23 de octubre de 2025, rodeado de su querida familia en el Hospital Metodista Bronson, tras sufrir complicaciones derivadas de un accidente de tráfico ocurrido unos días antes.

Jaime nació en Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, el 26 de marzo de 1944, hijo de Estevan y Esperanza Villanueva Rodríguez. Creció en La Isla del Encanto, donde desarrolló una sólida ética de trabajo, un profundo amor por su familia y un orgullo inquebrantable por sus raíces puertorriqueñas. De adolescente, se fue de Puerto Rico a Nueva York, donde vivió un corto tiempo antes de regresar a Puerto Rico para buscar a su hermano, y luego se mudaron a vivir y trabajar en Michigan. Juntos se establecieron en Michigan, donde Jaime construyó una vida plena y se convirtió en la figura patriarcal de muchas familias puertorriqueñas recién llegadas al área de Michiana. Jaime vivió en Three Rivers durante más de 60 años, donde dedicó 40 años de servicio a International Paper (Weyerhaeuser). Era admirado por su arduo trabajo y buen humor. Incluso después de jubilarse, Jaime solía visitar a sus amigos y antiguos compañeros de trabajo, bromeando sobre su nueva libertad de “fichar”.

Jaime, un esposo devoto, apreciaba mucho a su amada esposa, Balvina (Postosme) Rodríguez, a quien llamaba cariñosamente su chef, barbera, apoyo, amor y “su amor”. Con frecuencia expresaba su gratitud: “Mi esposa tiene un corazón de oro. Me cuida muy bien”. Juntos, construyeron una vida llena de amor, risas y respeto mutuo. Jaime se enorgullecía de sus hijos, ofreciéndoles siempre guía, amor y apoyo. Si bien sus métodos pueden haber sido diferentes, los valores que inculcó —carácter, orgullo, dedicación, resiliencia y humor— siguen profundamente arraigados en la familia. Jaime disfrutaba pasar tiempo con familiares y amigos, valorando los lazos que compartía con sus hermanos y compañeros de trabajo. A medida que su familia maduraba y se mudaba, las amistades que forjó con sus compañeros se volvieron aún más significativas, dando lugar a muchos recuerdos significativos llenos de calidez, risas e historias compartidas.
La vida de Jaime estuvo llena de pasiones y aficiones. Amaba la música, ver combates de boxeo y las carreras de autos. También disfrutaba del golf, cuidar su jardín, arreglar coches, pescar, explorar nuevos lugares y, sobre todo, probar suerte en los casinos, que era, sin duda, su forma favorita de relajarse. Su energía en las barbacoas era contagiosa, y sus historias alegraban cada reunión. Jaime se entusiasmaba con todo lo que hacía y se enorgullecía de sus múltiples aficiones e intereses.

Quienes quedan para llorarlo son su amada esposa, Balvina, sus hijos, Steven, Jaime Jr. (Tiffany) Rodríguez, y su hija, sus hijastros, Oscar (Alyssa) Schultz, Javier y Adilia Sequeira. Su hermana es Norma (Frank) Ramos y su su cuñada Carmen Rodríguez. Seis nietos, Steven Jr., Amanda, Jaden, Jax, Blaze, Rodríguez y Sofía Sequeira. Jaime estaba muy orgulloso de anunciar a todos el nacimiento de su única bisnieta, Kya Navae. Jaime también deja atrás dos sobrinos y cinco sobrinas, varias sobrinas nietas y sobrinos nietos, y una gran cantidad de amigos que eran más como familia que amigos. Estos hombres eran los mejores amigos, lo que demuestra que no tienes que compartir sangre para ser hermanos.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres y abuelos, y sus hermanos, José y Carlos Rodríguez.

Aunque la muerte de Jaime fue un shock repentino, su vida fue plena y profundamente significativa. Compartió risas, historias y aventuras con todos los que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerlo. Al honrar su memoria, recordaremos sus ejemplos: trabajar duro, amar profundamente y vivir plenamente. Jaime querría que todos abrazáramos la vida como él lo hizo, con gratitud, alegría y propósito.
