Charles David “Dave” Rains, age 72, of Three Rivers, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at his home in Three Rivers. Born on February 15, 1953 in White County, Arkansas, he was the son of Charles Emerson and Bonnie Jewel (Jones) Rains. Dave spent his early childhood in Arkansas before his family moved to Decatur, Michigan, where he graduated from Decatur High School.
After high school, Dave settled in Marcellus, where he married the love of his life, Kathy Sue Singleton, on December 17, 1977. They made their home in Three Rivers for the next 21 years, later spending time with family in both Arkansas and Florida, before returning to Three Rivers 13 years ago.
Dave worked many dedicated years at Dock Foundry in Three Rivers. While living in Arkansas, he also served in the maintenance department at the Walmart Distribution Center, and worked within the Russellville School System. A man of many talents, Dave was a proud member of the Kalval Saddle Club in Scotts, Michigan, and a gifted metal artist—his home affectionately became known by friends and family as “Camp David.”
In their early years in Three Rivers, Dave and his family lived on a farm where he cared for horses. Known as a true “horse whisperer,” he had a remarkable ability to connect with the animals he loved. Dave cherished his family above all else. He adored his son and worked hard to instill in him a strong work ethic, setting an example through his own dedication and love.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kathy Rains of Three Rivers; his son Adam (Nichole) Rains of Three Rivers; grandchildren Rollie Cole of Edwardsburg, Misae Cole of Shipshewana, and Kyle Olsen-Rains of Elyria, Ohio; and great-grandchildren Theodore Baldwin, Jace, and Jordyn Rice. He is also survived by his siblings Brenda Moon of Dowagiac, Corrine Merckley of Kentucky, and Mike Rains of Arkansas; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
