Harry Gruber, 75

Harry Lee Gruber, age 75, of Three Rivers, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026 at his home in the presence of his loved ones, after a long illness.

He was born August 28, 1950 in Piqua, Ohio, the son of Harry L. and Lelia (Hull) Gruber.

Harry served his country in the United States Army from 1968-70, seeing combat in Vietnam. He was highly decorated, receiving a Bronze Star, an Air Medal with two Bronze Stars, and a Sharpshooter Medal.

A beloved family man, Harry enjoyed hosting cookouts – he was always the cook. He was an avid fisherman, camper, and hunter, as well as a talented woodworker, crafting beautiful pieces for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church bazaars and the church itself. Though introverted with strangers, with family he had a great sense of humor.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth “Lisa” (Sears) Gruber, to whom he was a loving husband; sons, Jeremy and Michael; daughters, Angela (Garry) Hattey, Diana (Philip) Bukoski, Christa (Brandon) Harrington, and Hope Morrison (Adam Krull); many grandchildren including the two oldest, Bridget Stafford and Corey Ross, and the two youngest, Marley Rexford and Marrick Harrington, who have been a great help and joy to him in his life; many great-grandchildren; twin sister, Lena Kay Slone; and a sister, Linda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Maxton O. Harrington; and nephew, Rick Gamble.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 645 S. Douglas Ave., Three Rivers, with Fr. Arul Lazar officiating. Military honors will be performed under the auspices of American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation in Harry’s name to St. Joseph County Animal Rescue Fund or to Immaculate Conception Parish of Three Rivers. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Hohner Funeral Home.
