Frost laws go into effect

St. Joseph County Road Commission officials have announced seasonal speed and weight restrictions are going into effect next week.

Also known as “Frost Laws,” the seasonal restrictions start at 6 a.m. Monday.

The restrictions are imposed on county roads, with the exception of all-weather routes.

Weight restrictions call for a reduction in truckloads by 35 percent and speed to 35 miles per hour, depending on truck size and axle spacing.

County roads will be patrolled by certified weigh masters and drivers of vehicles found to be in violation will be fined.

All-weather routes exempt from the restrictions include portions of Centreville-Constantine, Crooked Creek, Dickinson, Fawn River, Featherstone, Fulton, Heimbach, Klinger Lake, Lutz and Shimmel roads, and Michigan Avenue.

Additional routes and further details can be found on the road commission’s Facebook page.
