Ronald Probst, 67

Ronald Paul Probst, age 67, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday morning, April 21, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family, following a long, courageous, and hard-fought battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, Ron faced each day with remarkable strength, determination, and an unwavering spirit, never allowing his diagnosis to define him. His resilience and quiet courage were an inspiration to all who knew him.

He was born on November 13, 1958 in Battle Creek, son of the late Robert and Delores (Lutz) Probst.

Ron resided most of his life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the Class of 1977 and furthered his education at Glen Oaks Community College. On March 16, 2005, he married the love of his life, Angela Gibson, in Las Vegas.

Ron retired from Americraft Carton in Sturgis following over 40 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Eagles Lodge #1314 and a former member of the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club.

Even during his illness, Ron continued to find joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved hunting, browsing garage sales in search of hidden treasures, and trying his luck at casinos. He cherished his monthly lunches with fellow retirees and enjoyed shopping trips to Meijer alongside his loyal service dog. A talented craftsman, Ron spent many hours wood burning and carving, as well as glass etching. He often joked that he was always busy fixing something that Angie had “broken,” a reflection of his humor and devotion. Above all, Ron was happiest when helping others, a trait he carried with him throughout his battle as he continued to put others before himself.

Ron took great pride in the Probst “Fishing with a Kid” program, a cherished tradition begun by his father that he faithfully carried on after his passing. The program has run for over 30 years, touching the lives of countless children and families. Ron personally prepared all the meals, making it his mission to ensure that every child not only enjoyed the experience, but left with a full stomach and a happy heart.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Angela, with whom he shared nearly 30 years of life and love together; his siblings, Richard (Tracy) Probst of Northville, Rena Probst of Rochester Hills, Randal “Randy” (Carol) Probst of Toledo, Oregon, and Rodney Probst of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 on Friday, April 24th at Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. A celebration of life service will follow, along with a time of fellowship and sharing of a meal at Eagles Lodge #1314, 1207 W. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. Memorial donations would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
