Lewis Bunnell, 90

Lewis Virgil Bunnell, age 90, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Friday, March 12, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital.

He was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Battle Creek, Mich., a son of the late George and Lula (Fisher) Bunnell.

Mr. Bunnell had resided in the Sturgis and Burr Oak area his whole life. On June 26, 1937 he married June Pinney in Burr Oak.

He had been employed by Purity Cylinder Gas in Kalamazoo for 16 years retiring in 1981. Prior to joining Purity Cylinder Gas he had worked at G.F. Business Equipment in Sturgis for 27 years.

Mr. Bunnell was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II earning the rank of Fireman First Class. He was a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and he enjoyed motorcycles and working on automobiles.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, June Bunnell; two sons, Larry (Jena) Bunnell of Colon and Terry Bunnell of Portage; three grandchildren, Shannon Bunnell of Aspen, Colo., Todd Bunnell of Anchorage, Ala., and Troy (Sheri) Bunnell of Portage.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Judy Bunnell.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich.
