It’s payback time! Tired of receiving all that junk mail offering you the opportunity to carry around another piece of plastic? My advice is to take that postage paid envelope they always enclose and fill it with the propaganda they want you to read. Fill that envelope and send it back to them, but don’t forget to leave out anything with your name on it! They’ll pay the postage. Don’t forget to shred the things that might fall into the wrong hands. My best friend and I send this stuff back. Maybe they will eventually get the hint and stop sending junk out to us.
The Water Festival Parade Committee announces that parade packets are now available for pickup at the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, 57 North Main Street in Three Rivers. Entrants are requested to pick up the packets as soon as possible so that you can familiarize yourselves with your staging area and staging time. Today is the first day that packets are available. The Water Festival parade is scheduled to step off at 7 P.M., June 18.
Yesterday was Memorial Day. I trust that everyone had a safe and enjoyable three-day weekend and that you, at some time during Monday, reflected on the true meaning of this important holiday.
Friday evening is graduation for the senior class of Three Rivers High School. To you graduates, I wish you the best in your endeavors. Your free ride has come to an end. You must now move on with the rest of your life and, like everyone else, contribute your fair share. Mom and Dad will always be there to act as a safety net. Your goal should be that you’ll never need the net. Because of proper parenting, you should be able to make it on your own and be proud of your accomplishments. Among those also leaving the halls of Three Rivers High will be Principal Dan Ryan, referred to at times as “Mr. Wildcat”. I would also like to thank you seniors for including my wife as one of the graduates. She has taught at Three Rivers High School for forty-two years and has never missed a graduation ceremony. She is finally putting the books back on the shelf and is extremely proud to graduate with the Class of 2010. We both ask that you remember your high school years and return to TR often. Above all, remember, “Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat”.
This is the time of the year when we are finishing up the planting of gardens and decorative flowers. As a matter of fact, my tomato plant already has buds. A lot of us use mulch to add a bit of decoration to our plants. Most mulches are safe if ingested by the family pet, but there is one uncommon, but potentially toxic, type of mulch that you should be aware of. Cocoa bean mulch is made from the hulls of cocoa beans and, when fresh, has a rich, chocolate aroma. Ingestion of large amounts of fresh mulch can result in chocolate toxicity. To keep your pet safe, keep her/him away from this type of mulch altogether.
High school graduation parties are the big social events going on at this time. If you are hosting a party, make sure to greet and thank your guests for coming. If you’re attending a party, try not to overstay your welcome and remember to thank your host/hostess for the invite. Most importantly, have a fun time.
Yesterday being Memorial Day means that gentlemen may now wear their white shoes. This is the stylish thing to do until Labor Day. They look exceptionally fashionable with shorts and black socks.
