The colors in the trees seem to be getting better every day. Next Sunday, October 14, is the date set aside when everyone can travel the areas around Three Rivers and take in the sights that Mother Nature has so generously provided. Whether it’s sampling the apples at Corey Lake Orchards, the cider and donuts at Swiss Valley, or the duck jerky at Rouch Outdoor Eqipment on Dutch Settlement Road, there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy. The Fall Color Tour runs from noon until 5 PM, so this gives everyone just enough time to sample everything. Tour brochures are available at several of the merchants in downtown Three Rivers, or you may also visit the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce office at 57 North Main Street, in historic downtown Three Rivers.You can also visit the Chamber website at www.trchamber.com and download the brochure (you’ll need either two sheets of copy paper or one sheet of 11 X 17 paper).
In celebrating their 175th Anniversary, the Three Rivers Presbyterian Church, 320 North Main Street, Three Rivers, will host a pancake breakfast next Sunday, October 14, from 9 AM until noon. The Moody Coyotes will present a concert that afternoon from 2 until 4 PM across the street in Lafayette Park. Everyone is invited to take their lawn chairs and enjoy this FREE concert. Donations will be graciously accepted for the church’s Commission Assistance Program (CAP). In case of bad weather, the concert will be held in the church. As I was falling asleep the other night, I was wondering why dogs enjoy licking people’s faces? I checked into that and was able to come up with several reasons. When puppies are born, they instinctively lick their mother’s face. It gives them a feeling of security. As the puppy grows, it retains that instinct as sort of submissive gesture.They also enjoy the taste of their owner’s salty skin, and it’s also known as a sign of affection. If the licking of your face bothers you, simply get up and walk away. If your dog licks your face while you’re petting her/him, stop the petting. It usually works. I sleep better now knowing this.
Just in time for fall, the Ninth Street United Methodist Church will host their Annual Fall Salads and More Supper this Saturday, October 13, from 5 until 7 PM. It’s an all-you-can-eat event featuring salads, casseroles, desserts and a variety of beverages. The cost for adults is $8 and it’s only $4 for children. If you’re a big fan of Monty Python, the historic Riviera Theatre has a treat for you. Monty Python and the Holy Grail will be shown this Friday, October 12, at 9 PM. This newly re-mastered farce, starring John Cleese, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, and the rest of the Pythons, will have you laughing until your belly hurts. Saturday, October 20, the Spartans of Michigan State will travel to the Big House in Ann Arbor for one of the biggest rivalries of the season. All the action can be seen live, in high definition, on the big screen at the Riviera. Kick-off time is yet to be determined. Oh yes, admission is FREE.
Many people seem to think that when you retire, your time is yours and your worries are gone. Speaking as a recent retiree, this just isn’t true. I am busier than I was when I was employed, and one of my biggest worries is staying healthy. Here’s one solution for those having the same problem. A balance exercise class, featuring “Low-Impact Exercise”. The class is designed for everyone, no matter what your age might be. The class instructor is Donna Dick, and the class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, at the Three Rivers Senior Center from 11 AM to noon.
