Nelson Alleshouse, 93

Nelson J. Alleshouse, age 93, of Colon, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers. Nelson was born Oct. 25, 1921, in White Hall, a son of the late George and Ada (Swick) Alleshouse.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 33rd infantry division during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star.

On May 23, 1942, he married Merna Mae Hart in Burr Oak, she preceded him in death Sept. 19, 2012.

He had worked for Post Cereal in Battle Creek for 37 years, retiring in 1978.

Nelson had lived in Colon since 1970, coming from Battle Creek. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon and was a member of the 25-year club at Post Cereal.

He is survived by two sons, David (Patti) Alleshouse of Mendon and Dennis (Dianne) Alleshouse of Battle Creek; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Alleshouse.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Nelson J. Alleshouse will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27. 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon, with Pastor David Grimm officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.

If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Nelson to either St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Riverview Manor. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
