Clarence Hamminga, 81

Clarence Hamminga, age 81, of Mendon Township, died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Bowman House in Three Rivers. He was born in Chicago on Nov. 7, 1933 the son of Garmt and Henrietta (Vienstra) Hamminga and has been a resident of the Mendon area since 1949. He attended Mendon Schools and served with the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951-54. Clarence was married to Mary Jane Huckendubler on June 29, 1956 at the Center Park Church.

Clarence worked at Simpson-Lee Paper Co in Vicksburg for 17 years before going to work at the Fisher Body Plant in Comstock. He enjoyed hunting and taxidermy, history and reading, metal detecting and carpentry. He especially enjoyed travels with his family in their Airstream camper.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; a son Michael (Mary) Hamminga of Liberty, MO; 3 grandchildren, Thomas and Daniel Hamminga, and Sarah (Matthew) Daugherty; a great granddaughter, Ava Daugherty and a great grandchild on the way; one sister, Henrietta Hamminga of Mendon; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Christine; 4 brothers, Henry, Frank, Gerrit, and Cornelius Hamminga; 4 sisters, Jane Hamminga, Imogene Merchant, Beatrice Cook, and Jantina Albright.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held 2:00.m. Tuesday Aug. 4, 2015 at the Crossroads Missionary Church with Pastor Bryan Balasa officiating.
