Robert T. McDonough, age 57, of Three Rivers, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2009 at the University of Michigan Hospital surrounded by his family.   He was born on July 11, 1952 in Lockport, NY the son of Lawrence and Nancy Jean McDonough.

Bob graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1970.   He earned a Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctor Degree, magna cum laude, from the Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI.   He was both an attorney and a certified public   accountant.

Bob began his career with the Upjohn company in 1979 and had been with the company and it’s successor organizations until his retirement in 2007.   During his tenure in the pharmaceutical industry, Bob has held senior positions in Corporate Finance & Taxation, Global Public Policy, and Corporate Affairs.

Bob was formerly the Mayor of his hometown, Three Rivers, MI.   President of the Three Rivers Board of Education and Chairman of the Board of Three Rivers Area Hospital.   He also was a board member of the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation and Borgess Health, a regional hospital and health care institution in Kalamazoo, MI. He was a member of the American and Michigan State Bar Association and the St. Joseph County Bar Association.

Bob’s true love was his family.   He loved to be involved in the lives and activities of his four sons.   He enjoyed biking, golfing, sailing, and spending summer days tending to his yard at the lake.   He was very proud of the opportunity to serve his local community and that of Kalamazoo, which he strongly believed in.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving family, wife Kathy “Katie” (Kroggel) McDonough, whom he married on May 24, 1975.   Four sons, John (Amanda), of White Pigeon, Thomas, of Chicago, Kevin and Kristopher, both of Ann Arbor, MI.;   two brothers, Peter (Cherie), of Three Rivers, and William (Donna) McDonough, of Highland, MI.; two sisters, Suzanne (Darrell) Radson, of Houghton, MI., and Mary Catherine (Mike) Kromrey, of Denver, CO.   Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of colleagues and friends throughout his associations.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers, MI.

Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 645 Douglas Ave., Three Rivers, with Fr. Mark Vyverman as celebrant.

Memorials may be donated to the Carnegie Center Council for the Arts.   107 N. Main Street, Three Rivers, MI.   Envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
