Speed is believed to be a factor in the death of an Elkhart man involved in a single-vehicle accident Friday in Cass County.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called around 10:30 p.m. Friday following an incident on Sunset Boulevard near South Beechwood Street in Porter Township.
Investigators said Travis Lee Schlabach, 39, was driving south on Sunset Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle.
It then ran off the roadway and crashed into a tree. He died at the scene, authorities said, adding that Schlabach was not wearing a seatbelt.
