The largest road project in several years in the Three Rivers area is poised to begin later this year.
The US-131 reconstruction project has been divided into two segments, according to Nick Schirripa, spokesman for Michigan Department of Transportation.
The expanded timeline, spring 2019 to fall 2020, will allow MDOT to do the work while minimizing traffic impact. This year’s focus will center on the reconstruction of the southern intersection of US-131 and M-60. In addition, MDOT will work on the intersection of US-131 and Hoffman Street.
The interchange at US-131 and south M-60 will be converted to a standard signalized intersection, with a light at William R. Monroe Blvd.
In 2020, reconstruction will begin on US-131 from Broadway Street to Hoffman Street. The project will include the conversion of US-131 into a boulevard, removal of the so-called slip ramp at the intersection onto Michigan Avenue and bridge-deck rehabilitation at the Rocky River.
