Is it the law, or is it just simple consideration? What I’m talking about is taking your own food or drink into a public restaurant. I’m pretty sure that the local health department frowns on this practice. As a matter of fact, the owner of the restaurant is subject to a rather hefty fine if they are caught permitting this to happen. It’s all about liability. You see, if you were to take a liver and onion sandwich into a fine-dining establishment and were to get sick by eating it there, you could hold that restaurant liable. That’s not good for business. Taking a milkshake from McDonald’s into a Burger King to go along with that flame-grilled Whopper is just plain rude. If you’re having trouble understanding this, picture inviting a friend over for dinner and they bring their own entree.
While on the subject of consideration, there are many restaurants and coffee shops that will welcome you and your friends into their dining area so that you can conduct a short meeting. In most cases they’ll even offer you your own space away from the other patrons. It’s amazing how many people don’t even order coffee or some other beverage while taking up this space. This is a perfect example of lack of consideration and rudeness. I won’t even touch on the subject of “not tipping”.
This might be hard to believe, but there are a few out there who will stop by a restaurant or coffee shop and get a coffee to go. They will then return several hours later and demand a FREE refill on that coffee-to-go. The unfortunate thing about this is that these folks are capable of breeding.

I’ve let it be known that the Three Rivers community has plenty of things to do for citizens of all ages. You can get Out and About and have a great time without dipping in to your children’s college funds. The Carnegie Center for the Arts is a perfect example. From now through Saturday, March 30, the public is invited to experience the Three Rivers Artists Guild’s Tenth Anniversary Show. Take the entire family downtown to the Carnegie and witness some of the artistic talent that abounds right here in St. Joe County. Located at 107 North Main Street in historic downtown Three Rivers, the gallery’s hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM – 5 PM. On Saturday, they open at 9 AM and close at noon. They are closed Sunday and Monday. There’s always something going on at the Carnegie.
Next Sunday, March 17, is St. Patrick’s Day, the one day of the year when everyone is a bit Irish. Celebrate and have a great time, but do so responsibly.
