Sturgis Planning Commission recommends zoning ordinance amendments

The Sturgis Planning Commission recently voted to recommend amendments to zoning ordinances that would permit catering facilities and banquet halls within certain zoning districts.

The ordinance would define catering facility as an establishment in which the principal use is the preparation of food and meals on the premises, and where such food and meals are delivered to another location for consumption. Food and meals may be served on site if the catering facility is in combination with a banquet hall or full-service eating and drinking establishment.

Under the proposed amendments, catering facility would be added as a permitted use in the business office service, business highway 2 and manufacturing districts.

In addition, “banquet hall” would be added as a special land use in certain districts.
