Stuart D. Halverson age 81, of Mattawan, passed away Wednesday August 26, 2009 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born in Three Rivers, Michigan on January 11, 1928 the son of the late Erling and Kathryn (Patterson) Halverson. He graduated from Three Rivers High School and attended 2 years of college at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH. Stuart was a veteran of Korean Conflict where he served in the Army in Germany. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He married Pat Wiedenbeck on May 14, 1955 in Three Rivers. He enjoyed woodworking and built his own home including several additions. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Upon his retirement from General Motor (26 years) he and Pat enjoyed extensive traveling in their motor home.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; son Marc (Toni) Halverson of Kalamazoo; brothers, Philip (Doris) Halverson of Three Rivers; Douglas (Carmen) Halverson of Upland, CA and sister, Maribelle (James) Couper of Fayetteville, Arkansas;and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 30, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel, Three Rivers. Graveside services will be held at the Hope Cemetery at Texas Corners Township in Kalamazoo on Monday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
