County commission approves IT plans

Eight policies and plans drafted by the St. Joseph County Information Technology department were approved by county commissioners Tuesday.

Presented by IT director Dustin Bainbridge, the several-page packet details specific policies related to Audit and Accountability; Change Management; Cyber Security Incident Response; Electronic Data Destruction and Sanitization; Information Technology Contingency; VPN Usage and Access; Wireless Access; and Workstation and Data Security.

Bainbridge told commissioners the collection is mostly new as it relates to the county’s IT policies and plans.

He said creation of the policies stems from two ever-evolving federal regulatory-compliance standards as they pertain to the security of criminal-justice information and federal tax information used by various county departments.

Bainbridge noted the plans were created following guidelines from the National Institutes of Standards and Technology.
