Members of the Constantine Village Council decided to put the proposal of adult-use marijuana before the village’s voters.
The board voted 6-to-1 Monday at its virtual council meeting.
Council members have been discussing the topic since passage of the 2018 Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act, and approved eleven licenses for medical marijuana previously.
Each licensee pays an annual fee of $5,000.
Village manager Mark Honeysett said he spoke to county clerk Lindsay Oswald prior to the meeting and inquired about when the village will have the opportunity to vote on the matter. He said it appears November will be the soonest it can appear for a vote.
The council’s action followed an hour-long public-comment session, during which village president Gary Mathers read letters from residents, many in support of the proposal, others opposed.
