Police receiving reports of unemployment fraud

Michigan State Police, county and local agencies have been receiving calls from citizens related to unemployment fraud.

According to state police officials, many businesses are receiving unemployment claims for employees who are not seeking unemployment benefits.

A police report is not required for this type of claim. The employee may report the fraud through the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency website at: michigan.gov/uia.

There is a link halfway down the page to “Report Fraud” or to “Report Identity Theft” for claims related to unemployment.

For other issues related to identity theft, go to: michigan.gov/msp, click on “services” on the top bar then select “identity theft.” There are resources and forms to assist with most situations.
