County commission discussed letter regarding prosecutor

The issue of a letter requesting the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners dismiss prosecutor John McDonough was discussed briefly during its meeting Tuesday.

Board chairman Dennis Allen, however, said the letter would be brought up during Wednesday’s 8 a.m. executive committee meeting and there would be in-depth discourse at that time.

Colon Township resident Tadd Davis, who co-authored the letter with State Rep. Aaron Miller, addressed commissioners Tuesday. He reminded them no matter the result of the Aug. 4 primary – in which McDonough is being contested by Lockport Township attorney David Marvin – McDonough will be on the payroll through Dec. 31.

As representatives of St. Joseph County, commissioners were implored by Davis to look further into the feasibility of relieving McDonough of his duties.

During commissioner comments, Kathy Pangle said she is looking forward to the executive meeting and the commission needs to listen to its legal advisor on how to move forward.

Speaking as a taxpayer and not as a member of the board, Pangle said she is supportive of the letter and those who signed it.
