Victim Advocate Training begins

The Michigan Sheriff’s Association is scheduled to provide Victim Advocate Training this weekend at the Fabius-Park Township Fire Department.

Victim Services Units are volunteer components of local sheriff’s offices and are trained through the Michigan Sheriff’s Association to provide compassionate support in times of extreme stress, such as the loss of a loved one or being the victim of a crime.

This event will provide new team members with training in a variety of topics, including effective communication and mental health, plus exposure to law enforcement and fire protocols.

The Victim Services Unit within the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office was established in 1990 and consists of 26 local volunteers, dedicated to assisting families and victims navigate crisis situations.
