Steve Glant, 65

Steven Michael Glant, age 65, of Union City, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Lighthouse of Athens, 310 S. Capital Avenue. Pastor Jayme Palaszeski from the Athens United Methodist Church will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Union City American Legion at the conclusion of the service. Burial of Steve’s urn will be done privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation.
Steve was born on May 15, 1955 in Coldwater, to Richard E. and Patsy (Case) Glant. He attended Colon Schools for many years, but graduated from Union City High School. He joined the Army National Guard in early 1974 and later that year, he married the former Deborah L. Collins on Nov. 23 in Union City. They would have been happily married 46 years this month.
Steve was a jack of all trades, working at various companies, but worked as a truck driver for many years, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He also served as a heavy equipment operator and maintenance person while in the Guard. He was even known to drive armored tanks! He served Army National Guard honorably for 21 years. He was a proud member of the Union City American Legion, Post #196. He lived in Union City most of his life and raised his family there.
Fun-loving, kind, and sometimes stubborn are how Steve’s family will remember him. He enjoyed good country music, old western movies, and sitting on his front porch visiting with friends and neighbors. He would go out of his way to help anyone for any reason at any time. He was a great Pa and Papa to his grandchildren and was a Dad to anyone who needed one. He was so proud of all of his children.
In addition to his wife Debby, Mr. Glant is survived by his children John (Becky) Glant of Union City, Joe Glant of Union City, Casey (Erik) Parker of Coldwater and Kylee (Tom) Lowande of Caledonia; his mother Patsy Glant of Athens; his siblings Rod (Sarah) Glant of South Haven, Sheri Slater of Leonidas, Don (Carol) Glant of Burr Oak, Scott Glant of Ft. Polk, LA, and PennyJo Hardy of Ypsilanti, and his grandchildren Brittni Towery, John Michael Kinney, Calvin Glant, Allison Glant Parker, Ada Parker, Weston Parker, Khloe Lowande, Adalyn Lowande, and a new grandson due in February, Logan Thomas Lowande. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Glant in 2017 and his grandson Logan Chase Glant in 1998.
