Two people were injured in a collision involving four vehicles last weekend in White Pigeon Township.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at 5:20 a.m. Saturday to U.S. 12 near Oak Street.
Investigators said a semi tractor-trailer driven by 60-year-old Joseph Nelson of White Pigeon Township, was backing into a residential driveway on U.S. 12. Authorities said a Ford Edge traveling eastbound on U.S. 12 and driven by Charles Blackmon, 46, of White Pigeon, struck the semi-trailer. Neither driver sustained injuries.
While both vehicles were in the roadway, a Ford F-150 driven by 46-year-old Tiburcio Pena-Cruz of Sturgis stopped ahead of the scene to avoid colliding with the damaged vehicles.
It was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Luciano Ramirez-Alcantor, of Sturgis. He and a passenger from Pena-Cruz’s vehicle, 26-year-old Jonathan Pena-Garcia of Sturgis, were transported to Sturgis Hospital.
White Pigeon Fire/Rescue extricated Pena-Cruz and he was airlifted to Bronson Hospital with major injuries, authorities said.
