COA continues efforts to connect with seniors

St. Joseph County Commission on Aging is continuing to provide treats, craft kits to-go and exercise classes on its Facebook page and YouTube channel.

In addition, the nutrition department frequently provides special treats and cards to seniors receiving Meals on Wheels.

Ruth Mancina, COA marketing and life-enrichment manager, said the pandemic has had a major impact on seniors. But, she added, COA officials hope seniors in St. Joseph County know they are being thought of and efforts are being made to try keeping them connected.

The next event takes place 11 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday next week, when the COA will hold “Mardi Gras Drive-Thru” at the Three Rivers center and 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the center in Sturgis.

The kit includes a cup of gumbo, a slice of king cake and a few other treats. To register, the COA can be reached at 279-8083.
