New fundraising record set for United Way

The St. Joseph County United Way once again set a new record for funds raised, as it recently concluded its 2021 campaign.

Director Kelly Hostetler said the 12-month’s campaign goal was exceeded, and more than $1.1 million was raised.

Morgan Olson of Sturgis was the top contributor, as its employees pledged more than $170,000. TH Plastics and Burr Oak Tool rounded out the top three.

The remaining top 10 donors, in order, were: American Axle, Kadant Johnson, city of Sturgis, Sturgis Public Schools, Oak Press Solutions, Sturgis Hospital and Meijer.

Special events over the past year raised nearly $550,000, and 158 Leadership Givers each pledged $1,000 or more.

Hostetler said the new honorary chairs for Campaign 2022 are Jeff Bloomfield, Three Rivers fire chief, and Garrett Hall of Berkshire Hathaway.
