Martha Jo Romine, age 71, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday evening, June 10, 2021 at her home.
She was born April 3, 1950 at the Baptist Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana daughter of the late Max C. and Mary Alice (Cox) Monroe.
Martha Jo resided in Sturgis since 1997 coming from Bronson, where she was a graduate of Bronson High School. She furthered her education at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana earning a Bachelor Degree in Education.
On July 19, 1980 she married Donald Romine at the Sturgis Bible Chapel in Sturgis.
Martha Jo substitute taught elementary education at the Sturgis Public Schools for several years. She also taught at the Bronson, Quincy and Coldwater Community School systems.
She enjoyed shopping, was an avid reader and loved collecting lady bugs. She was known by all of her many students as the “Lady Bug Lady”.
Martha Jo is survived by her loving and dedicated husband: Donald; son: Aaron Romine of Mechanicsville, Virginia; grandchildren: Max and Phoebe; brother: James C. (Betty) Monroe of Loganville, Georgia; nephew: Jimmy (Kimberly) Monroe of Loganville and nieces: Elisa and Lydia.
In honoring Martha Jo’s wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Romine’s memory consider the Sturgis Christian School, 70031 S Lakeview St, Sturgis, MI 49091.
