Three teens injured in crash

Cass County Sheriff’s Department deputies investigated a single-vehicle crash last weekend in Porter Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday to an area of M-40, north of Teasdale Lake Road.

Investigators said a car driven by 17-year-old Emily Avery of Three Rivers was southbound and went off the roadway. Authorities said Avery appears to have over-corrected and, as a result, collided with an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its roof.

Passengers Madelyn Courtney, 18, of Chicago, and 15-year-old Sydney Avery, of Three Rivers, were transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

Emily Avery was airlifted to South Bend Memorial. Investigators said it appears seatbelts were not in use by any of the three occupants.
