Galen Eichorn, 72

Galen Eichorn passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 at the age of 72. Thus ended his 7 year battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
Carol, his wife of nearly 50 years, was by his side until the very end. The two first met while they were both working at a hospital in Denver. Carol is a native of Denver but traded Rocky Mounty Highs for Southwest Michigan lows. For better or for worse, Galen’s road to fulfillment was lined with cow hooves and hay bales.
While traveling this somewhat uncertain road, Galen and Carol found time to bring four beautiful children into the world. They added a fifth child when they took a wrong exit and ended up at the doorstep of a Vietnamese orphanage. Their children: Darryl (Holly), Darrin (Megan), Mark, Daniel (Anne), Rachel (Brian), produced eight grandchildren: Zoe, Joe, Libby, Xavier, Carter, Sander, Asher, and Pyper i.e. tax credits and innumerable hours of memorable time spent with Galen and Carol.
Galen was a follower of Christ, however, he never fully grasped the meaning of Mark 3:25. For he was a Michigan State fan and his children, avid Michigan fans. A house divided indeed. Galen was a longtime member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church where Sunday morning services were often met with the mantra “better late than never”.
In his younger years, Galen attended Centreville High School where he excelled at basketball, football, and baseball. After high school, he enjoyed traveling, his Aston Martin and searching for blonde girls to marry.
Galen will be remembered as being a devout Christian, a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather and a friend to many. He spent his working life on the farm raising corn, hay, soybeans, and a steady crop of children. Galen will be remembered as hard working, humble, fun loving, a lover of ice cream and a gentle family man with a big heart.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, 29525 Findley Rd., Burr Oak, MI 49030.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, at the church with Pastor Mike Loss, officiating.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, before the Service, at Locust Grove Cemetery for those that may want to attend.
Memorial donations may be directed to Mennonite Mission Network, P.O. Box 370 Elkhart, IN 06511 or MSA Coalition, 7918 Jones Branch Dr., Ste. 300, McLean VA 22102.
