Centreville schools hold ribbon-cutting for new facility

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting event Monday saw Centreville Public Schools officials observe its new bus garage and maintenance facility.

The 5,000-square-foot building also serves as a storage facility, replacing a now-razed structure that sat north of Centreville Elementary.

Superintendent Stephanie Lemmer said the original bus garage was built in the early 1950s, shortly after the end of WWII.

Unlike its predecessor, the new, three-bay bus garage has high-efficiency lighting and heating, plenty of storage space and an indoor bus-wash area.

Lemmer said the $920,000 in construction costs was made possible through a 2014 voter-backed millage that saw work done in three stages. The bus garage is a part of the millage’s third phase.

The district also has two new busses to add to its fleet.
