Luella G. Camburn, age 92, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021 at her home.
She was born January 16, 1929 in Kaneville, Illinois daughter of the late Archie W. and Wilhelmina S. (Troeger) Carr.
Mrs. Camburn resided in Sturgis since 1953, coming from Lawrence, Michigan.
On June 8, 1946 she married James R. Camburn in Kalamazoo. He preceded her in death August 3, 2012.
Luella retired from Sturgis Molded Products in Sturgis following 23 years of dedicated employment. She had also worked at the Transogram Company and Burr Oak Rubber Products.
She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis.
Mrs. Camburn enjoyed walking at the Doyle Center, gardening, embroidery work and snowmobiling. She and Jim enjoyed traveling. From 1972 to 1988 the two loved touring the country by motorcycle. Many will miss Luella’s baking skills, especially her famous sugar cookies.
She is survived by one daughter: Catherine Witmer of Elkhart; three sons: Laurence (Ann) Camburn of Richland and Douglas (Theresa) Camburn and Melvin (Deborah) Camburn both of Sturgis; ten grandchildren: Kyle O’Brien, Kevin O’Brien, Heather Kintigh, Kristin Hammond, Holly Sweatman, Hope Larhrib, Jonathan Camburn, Patrick Camburn, Kevin Camburn and Amanda Camburn; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; one sister: Geneve (Carl) Flickinger of Plainwell; one brother: Gene Carr and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one son: Patrick Camburn; eight brothers: Mike, Bob, Bill, Dar, Walt, Fred, Roger and Dan Carr and two sisters: Hazel Boyer and Helen Effner.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:15 P.M. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis where funeral services celebration the life of Luella G. Camburn will begin at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday. The Rev. Sue Babb will officiate. The service will be livestreamed on the First United Methodist Church Facebook page. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. A gathering of family and friends to further celebrate Luella’s life will be held at a later date to be announced.
