A Florence Township resident will replace a long-time member of the St. Joseph County Road Commission Board.
County commissioners Tuesday appointed David Miars to the six-year term, replacing David Allen. Allen had indicated he was ready to step down from the road commission board after completing a six-year term of his own.
Miars, who is chairman of the county’s Public Works Committee, served eight years as a school board member in Centreville back in the 1990s. He was one of two finalists who interviewed for the board post. He said he appreciates the county commission’s confidence in him to work well on the road commission.
The 72-year-old Miars, who was unsuccessful in a bid for a seat to the county commission in 2008, previously worked as manager for an automotive plant in Livonia. He is an Ypsilanti native.
In other action Tuesday, commissioners appointed Gerald Loudenslager to the county’s Department of Health and Human Services Board, and reappointed John Dobberteen and Steve Zarza to the county’s Parks and Recreation Commission.
