Last week, I shared some information on Hearing Loss. As promised, here are some “signs” and “symptoms” of hearing loss:
Muffling of speech and other sounds.
Difficulty understanding words, especially against background noise or in a crowd.
Trouble hearing consonants.
Frequently having to ask others to speak slower, clearer and louder.
Needing to turn up the volume of the television or radio.
Withdrawal from conversations
Avoidance of some social settings.
I’m sharing this information because I have a loss of hearing in both ears and have been wearing hearing aids for several years now. My hearing loss came from working around jet airplanes. I see a lot of young people with ear buds in their ears listening to loud music. These same individuals enjoy sitting in the front row of a rock concert. Someday, they too will be wearing hearing aids.
Next week, I’ll share information on the causes of hearing loss and what you can do to protect that valuable sense.
The Stone-house FREE Store, located at the corner of Bennett and West Street in Three Rivers is still in need of winter clothing for all ages. There is also a desperate need for towels. The weather is colder now, and there are plenty of folks in need of proper winter clothing. The FREE store is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 AM until Noon for shopping or dropping off any donations you might have. The wearing of masks is strongly recommended. If you forget yours, the volunteers will be glad to offer you one.
Kudos to those employees of the Department of Public works who get out early and plow the streets to rid them of snow. They’ll handle the main streets first, but have patience and they will soon take care of the less-traveled ones.
I don’t know of any business that is fully-staffed. I’m speaking about the many coffee shops and restaurants, including the fast-food establishments. If you are one who complains about the quality of service due to the lack of staffing, please speak to the management. I’m sure they’d be happy to offer you an application.
I enjoy passing on information about things to do that are FREE. I’d like to remind you of an event that is not FREE, but is well worth your time and the cost involved. I’m referring to the Life Line Screening event happening next Tuesday, January 25, at the First Presbyterian Church, 320 North Main Street, in Three Rivers. Life Line Screening goes beyond regular checkups to provide a more thorough look at your health. Life Line Screening has partnered with over 100 hospitals across the country and has conducted over ten million screenings since 1993. The five screenings include: Carotid Artery; Heart Rhythm; Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm; Peripheral Arterial Disease; and Osteoporosis Risk Assessment. The cost for all five of these screenings is $139.00.
