Coronavirus cases increase

New coronavirus cases leaped in Michigan in the week ending Sunday, with 7,725 cases were reported.

The previous week had 3,759 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

St. Joseph County reported 25 cases and three deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 12 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 13,692 cases and 207 deaths.

Within Michigan, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Washtenaw, Alpena and Oakland counties.

Adding the most new cases overall were Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Across Michigan, cases fell in eight counties, with the greatest declines in Mackinac, Van Buren and Keweenaw counties.
