Out and About – Week of October 26th

Last Friday was the final football game of the regular season for our Three Rivers Wildcats. It was a perfect night for football if you were a spectator: Chilly with the chance of rain. If you were a player, it was a night when they separated the men from the boys. The Wildcats won 41-0, which means that playoffs are in the future. Congratulations to all the players and coaches.

Please forgive me for being a week early on the next three items of interest, but I’ve procrastinated in the past and ended up being late in announcing an upcoming event. I’d rather be early than to have someone ask me why I failed to mention something, so here it goes.

I now know what a “Mom2Mom” sale is, thanks to a parent from Andrews Elementary School, 200 South Douglas in Three Rivers. It’s sort of a cross between a flea market and a garage sale, and it’s happening Saturday, November 7, from 8 A.M. until noon at Andrews Elementary School. It not only promises to be fun, but it will also be a great way to make some money for yourself, pick up some much needed treasures, and contribute to the Andrews Elementary Funds. Those interested need to contact Debbie Zinsmaster at (269)273-4737 as soon as possible, so that they can reserve tables. The reason to mention this early is that space is very limited. If you’re an Andrews family, table rental is $15. Rental cost for others is $20. If you’d just like to attend the sale, admission is only $1. All table rentals, admissions, and concession proceeds go toward Andrews Elementary field trips, assemblies, and playground equipment.

It’s that time of the year again when the First United Methodist Church Women host their famous Swiss Steak Dinner. Thursday, November 5, starting at 5:30 P.M. is when this all comes together, and it happens at the First United Methodist Church, 215 North Main Street, Three Rivers. The cost for this Harvest Dinner is $8 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12 years old. Oh yes, you’ll want to remember to ask about those delicious homemade frozen pies that will be available.

Sunday, November 8, is another date you’ll want to circle on your calendar. This is when the Carnegie Center for the Arts opens their stunning exhibit of “soft” and “hard” art: fiber art by the River Country Quilters, and black and white photography by Mark Krastof. This show opens with a reception from 2 until 4 P.M., sponsored by the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, along with generous support from Wal-Mart. This must-see exhibit runs through Saturday, December 19. For those who have never been to the Carnegie, it is located at 107 North Main Street in Three Rivers. The gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. and it is open on Saturday from 10 A.M. until 3 P.M. You may call the Carnegie at (269)273-8882 for more information, or please visit their website at www.trcarnegie.com.

A week from today, November 3, is Election Day. It’s another opportunity for you registered voters to get Out and About and do your civic duty by casting your vote. This election day you get to make a decision as to who will represent you on the City Commission. If you don’t vote, you have NO right to complain about the outcome.

Here’s another one of those things that might make you sit back and say, “Hmmm.” Why is there an expiration date on sour cream?

See you Out and About!
