Arrest made following chase

A Sturgis man was arrested after attempting to flee from sheriff’s deputies earlier this week.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies tried to stop a vehicle Monday on Burr Oak Road and Clinton Street in the village of Burr Oak due to multiple motor-vehicle violations. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and continued on Ackey Road, where the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway, traveled through fields and caused damage to property.

The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed near U.S. 12 and a short foot chase occurred before the 27-year-old suspect was taken into custody. He is charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, operating under the influence of drugs and malicious destruction of property, authorities said.
