Don Mieras, 90

Don R. Mieras, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday evening, August 4, 2022 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born January 29, 1932 in Sturgis, son of the late Harry and Gladys (Wall) Mieras.
Don was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1950.
On October 1, 1955 he married Joan Herrold in Detroit. She preceded him in death October 2, 1999. He later married Ethel Francisco who also preceded him in death.
Most of his working life called upon his gift and talent of cabinet maker and fine furniture building.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. army during the Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal.
Don was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis.
He served as a member of the Sherman Township Zoning Board for many years and for 19 years he was a volunteer with Hospice of Sturgis. He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, square dancing and a favorite hobby was beekeeping with his son, Jeff. Don was a strong supporter of the Centreville FFA, the Centreville Band Boosters, and served as a 4-H leader.
He is survived by his children: Josey (Floyd) Brouwer of Hudsonville, Joe (Kathy) Mieras of Sturgis, Jon (Dodie) Mieras of Sturgis, Jannine Merten of Centreville and Jaime Mieras of Centreville; six grandchildren: Amanda, Abe, Jesse, Alli, Cait and Emi; one brother: David (Jill) Mieras of Saline and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, son: Jeff Mieras; infant daughter: Jennifer Mieras; Son-in-law: Dan Merten; two sisters: Judith Hearl and Janet Danklefsen and one brother: Denny Mieras.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Don R. Mieras will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Chaplain Rodger Moyer of Thurston Woods Village will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military Honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
