Constantine girl dies in crash

An 11-year-old girl from Constantine died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Constantine Township.

According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called at 2:45 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of Klett Road and Quaker Street.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said a 49-year-old woman from Bristol, Ind., was driving south on Klett Road. She told authorities she did not see a stop sign at the Quaker Street intersection and proceeded through the crossroads.

Her vehicle struck an eastbound SUV driven by a 32-year-old man. The girl was a passenger in the SUV and was declared deceased at the crash scene. The driver and two additional children in the SUV sustained minor injuries.

Identity of the victim has not been made, pending notification of family.
