Judy Mohney passed away on August 20th, 2023, in Salem, Oregon surrounded by her Family. Judy was born in Three Rivers on September 30th, 1942. Her parents were George and Madge (Kline} Gilchrist.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Brother George and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband John Mohney, Stepdaughter Vicki Kintz (John), Stepson Curran Mohney (Teri Lyn), step grandchildren Torin and Conlan, sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Terry Dennis, Nephews Jim and Luke (Julie)Parsons, Nieces Cheryl Miller (Randy) and Beth Parsons (Max) and many Great nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Clara.
Judy attended Three Rivers public schools graduating from Three Rivers High school in 1960. She attended Glen Oaks Community college and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in art history and graphic design. Judy worked for Johnson Corporation as an advertising and marketing manager for 37 years. After retiring she served nine years as administrator of Immaculate Conception school in Three Rivers. It was a job she thoroughly enjoyed. After that Judy returned to school to study Massage Therapy and opened her massage business in 2010.
At their 50th high school class reunion Judy met and became friends with John’s First wife Anna. They began an email correspondence that lasted until Anna’s death from cancer. John and Judy then kept up the correspondence, which became a daily thing. Eventually John invited Judy to Portland for a visit. After the visit they talked on the phone daily and finally decided it would be better together and they married in November 2012. They joked that they only had one date, but it was a weeklong. After 4 years in Portland, they moved to Stayton, Oregon to be nearer children.
Judy was always active in civic affairs wherever she was. In Three Rivers it was Lions club (first woman member), Board member Big Brother/big Sister program, Carnegie Center for the Arts, Three Rivers city commission for two terms, Co-Chair three Rivers water festival. She received the Best Neighbor award in 1998 and was Named Three Rivers Citizen of the year in 2001. She was on so many boards and commissions there are too many to list.
Her active life carried on in Stayton where she was on the city charter review committee, City Ordnance 1019 review committee, Board member of Revitalize downtown Stayton, and active in the Stayton United Methods Church.
Judy had a curious mind, always learning something new. She was an avid reader, loved music, and later in life learned the flute, saxophone, ukelele, harmonica, and dulcimer. She would say things like “we need to learn sign language” and then buy a Great Courses program.
Judy loved people and was always helping others. She was a three-time cancer survivor but could not win her final bout with leukemia. She will be greatly missed by all who know her.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 30th at 11:00 a.m. at the Riviera Theatre in downtown Three Rivers. A memorial service was also held September 10th at the Stayton United Methodist Church.
