Melissa Ann Hallack, age 44, of Mendon, passed away Thursday morning, May 30, 2024, in Mendon Township due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born August 23, 1979 in Sturgis, daughter of Michael and Debra (Riddle) Hohn.
Melissa had just recently moved to Mendon. She was born and raised in Sturgis and had also lived in Scotts for several years. She was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1998 and furthered her education at Glen Oaks Community College, Western Michigan University, and earned her Law Degree at Cooley Law School in Lansing.
On August 22, 2009, she married Jason Hallack in Mattawan.
Melissa’s career in law began working side by side with her mentor and dear friend Michael Mestelle at Mestelle Law Office in Sturgis. For several years she owned and operated Hallack Law Office in Sturgis. Since March of 2024 she held the position of Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of St. Joseph County.
Melissa had a strong belief and reliance in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She had a passion for Rooted of St. Joseph County and was currently serving as its board president and member and past president of the Michigan Bar Association. Melissa was happiest when she was doing things for others. Her family and children were always number one in Melissa’s life be it coaching their many sports teams or being the little league team mom or just hanging out with each of them.
She is survived by her husband: Jason; children: Isabel, Lucy and Ella; mother: Debra Slater of Sturgis; father: Michael (Kathy) Hohn of Rodney; siblings: Matthew (Ewa) Hohn of Poland, Joel (Jessica) Hohn of Sturgis, Andrea (Noel) Jimenez of Sturgis, Michael Hohn of Rodney and Brittney Hohn; Several nieces and nephews including Ellie Sue, Edmund, Aleksandra, Caleb, Cooper, Morgan, Leo and Samantha.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Melissa Ann Hallack will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Radiant Life Church, 907 N. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Pastor Josh Herrema will officiate. Private burial of the remains will take place at a later date.
