Orville L. Shook, age 95, of Colon, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, surrounded by his family at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
Orville was born on July 20, 1929, in VanWert, Ohio, a son to the late Wilbur K. and Ilo P. (Fair) Shook. Orville graduated from VanWert High School as a member of the class of 1947.
On March 29, 1953 Orville married his wife of 71 years, Betty G. Brotherwood in VanWert, Ohio. She preceded him in death earlier this year on June 1, 2024.
Orville served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Orville and Betty moved from VanWert, Ohio, to Allegan, Michigan. They lived 10 years in Allegan and eventually moved to Colon in 1963. Orville worked for 28 yeas for the Three Rivers Press. He retired in 1994. Orville was also a member of the Colon American Legion Post 454.
Surviving Orville is his son Jerry L. (Karen) Shook of Colon, daughter Lorie (John) Wattles of Sherwood, 7 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Wilbur and Ilo Shook, Orville was preceded in death by his wife Betty G. Shook, his son Dale L. Shook in 1982, and grandson Shawn Shook.
The Shook family will receive friends and relatives at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 with pastor Randy Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial donations be made to either the American Cancer Society, Michigan Children’s Leukemia Foundation, or the Colon Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
