Michigan Department of Transportation officials announced one lane of northbound U.S. 131 in Schoolcraft is now open to traffic.
Agency officials said the step was taken this week and marks the beginning of the end of the $51 million investment.
Originally slated to be completed by the end of November, the second year of the two-year project is on track to finish two weeks ahead of schedule.
Starting Wednesday, one lane of both northbound and southbound U.S. 131 were open through Schoolcraft and south of Shaver Road. Meanwhile, the detour has been removed as crews begin the final stages of work that started in 2023 to rebuild 13.4 miles of U.S. 131 from the Rocky River near Three Rivers to Shaver Road.
Work remaining includes new pavement markings, signs, restoration, signal work and cleanup. The anticipated completion date is Nov. 8.
