Ronna Girton, 61

Ronna (Balzcak) Girton, age 61, of Laingsburg, Michigan, former long-time resident of White Pigeon Township, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Lansing after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born on March 31, 1963 in Grand Rapids, daughter of the late Ronald and Patricia (Houck) Balzcak.

On December 2, 2000, she married David Girton in Sturgis.

Over the 24 years of their marriage, Ronna worked as a medical office manager and biller for Sturgis Hospital and a Kalamazoo oncology practice up until the time of her cancer diagnosis. After treatment she worked alongside her husband on the family farm. She loved raking hay in the summer sun and running the combine shelling corn in the fall. She was the deputy clerk for White Pigeon Township for 12 years.

Wherever Ronna went, whether through work, medical treatments, or even to the local coffee shop, she made lasting friends with all that she met. She loved vacations with her sisters to the beach, getting iced coffee at the coffee shop, and especially tailgating at Michigan State in the fall with friends before every Spartan football game. Family gatherings and holiday celebrations were among her favorites. Making pies on Thanksgiving Eve with her sisters was a tradition she never missed. Most of all she adored spending time with her grandsons.

She is survived by her husband, Dave; sons Joshua (Jarmila) Poorman of Providence Forge, VA and Jacob Poorman of Lowell, MI; daughter Samantha Poorman of Chicago, as well as step son Derek (Lauren) Girton of Dewitt, MI; grandchildren Julian and Jonathan Poorman and Tyler and Connor Girton; sisters Laura (Rob) Brown and Michele Onken; and brother Dave (Nicole) Balzcak and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Andrew Balzcak.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 3:00, Friday, March 21st at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Private graveside services will follow the visitation at White Pigeon Township Cemetery. Pastor Rodger Moyer will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research, PO Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309
