Charles Warren Major, age 89, of Centreville, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and honor that will be cherished by all who knew him. Born on October 27, 1935 in Three Rivers, Charlie was the son of Warren and Alice (Morris) Major. He spent his early years on the family farm, and graduated from Centreville High School in 1954. Charlie later attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where he completed his studies in heating and refrigeration.
In 1958, Charlie was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served until 1960. Stationed in Kirsh-Gons, Germany with the 3rd Armored Division, 2nd Heavy tank Battalion, he later continued his service in the Army Reserves for an additional four years. Following his military service, Charlie worked for many years in the manufacturing industry, retiring from American Axle & Manufacturing after having also worked at General Motors and Continental Can Company. Charlie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers-Centreville, as well as a life member of the Masonic Lodge.
In his spare time, Charlie was a passionate gardener, sharing the fruits of his labor with friends, neighbors, and local community groups until his health declined. He and his wife, Cassandra, spent their retirement years traveling throughout the United States and Canada, creating lasting memories together.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cassandra (Kuhnle) Major; sons Michael Major and Mark (Melissa) Major; grandchildren Autumn, Zane, and Brooke Major; brother Wayne (Marsha) Major; sisters Marilyn McManus and Nancy (Steve) Murk; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Eley Funeral Home in Centreville on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 3 to 6:00. In accordance with Charlie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Private family interment will take place at Praire River Cemetery in Centreville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
