Rebecca Lou “Becky” Pueschel, age 78, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday morning, July 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 6, 1947 in Sturgis, Becky was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Ruth May (Mireley) Sherman. She was a lifelong resident of the Howe, Indiana and Sturgis area and graduated from Lakeland High School with the Class of 1965. She later earned her associate degree from Davenport College.
On April 6, 1968, Becky married the love of her life, John Martin Pueschel, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis. They shared 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2022. Together, they enjoyed many winters at their second home in Port Charlotte, Florida, beginning in 1999.
Becky worked as a travel agent at Travel Time in Sturgis and was a dedicated bookkeeper for the family farm. Above all, she was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a longtime member of both St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte.
A committed community member, Becky volunteered as a 4-H leader for over 20 years and was honored as Homemaker of the Year. In Florida, she was active in Eagles Lodge #3296 and The Red Hat Society. She was a talented seamstress and quilter who cherished time spent with her family.
Becky is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Richard) Mead-Bennett of Sturgis; her sons William (Penny) Pueschel and Christopher (Terra) Pueschel, both of Sturgis; her grandchildren Austin Pueschel, Morgan (Trey) Lovelace, Madison Pueschel, Megan Mead, Emily Mead, Drew Pueschel, Alexis Pueschel, and Zachary Pueschel great grandchildren Marlow Lovelace, Charliey Lovelace and Beau Sanford and her step-grandchildren Tyler and Madison Alter, and Marie and James Bennett. She is also survived by her brother Richard (Beth) Sherman of Howe, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her son-in-law Marcus Mead, and her brothers Frank Sherman (and his wife Kathy) and H. Delevan Sherman.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, July 17th at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. A funeral service to celebrate Becky’s life will be held at 1:00 on Friday, July 18th, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis, officiated by Rev. Paul Rutschow of Christ the King Lutheran Church. In accordance with Becky’s wishes, cremation will follow the service, and a private interment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
